Home Energy Saver Program

Launched in June 2026, the NSW Home Energy Saver program offers Sydney households zero-interest loans of up to $15,000, repaid over up to 10 years, to cover solar, battery, switchboard upgrades and other energy improvements.

It's open to homeowners and landlords with a combined taxable household income of up to $210,000, with a further discount of up to $4,000 coming later in 2026 for lower-income households.

It stacks with the federal rebates below, so it's typically used to cover whatever's left after those discounts are applied.

State & Federal Battery Rebates

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is the main driver of battery savings in Sydney, knocking roughly 25–30% off the installed cost of an eligible system, applied upfront by your installer rather than claimed later.

As of May 2026 the discount is tiered by size — full rate on the first 14kWh, reducing for capacity beyond that — so right-sizing your battery to your actual usage matters more than it used to.

On top of this, NSW offers a separate incentive through the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme for batteries connected to a Virtual Power Plant, which stacks with the federal discount for further savings.

Solar Rebate

Solar panels in Sydney are discounted through the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme — NSW doesn't run its own separate solar rebate. Sydney falls in a strong solar zone, and a typical residential system can see a few thousand dollars taken off the upfront price, applied directly by your installer at the point of sale.

The catch is that the scheme winds down every year on the way to closing in 2030, so the rebate shrinks annually — installing sooner generally locks in a larger discount than waiting.
